Mains gas boilers
Where a suitable mains-gas supply exists, gas boilers are a familiar option with a wide choice of appliances and engineers. Boiler type and sizing still need to suit the property and hot-water demand.
Oil boilers
Oil heating is widely used in off-grid and rural properties. Unlike mains gas, the property needs suitable fuel storage and a supply line between the tank and appliance. Tank condition and siting therefore form part of the wider heating system.
LPG boilers
LPG is another off-grid option. The property may use a bulk storage tank or, for some installations, a bottle or cylinder arrangement, with appropriate supply pipework to the appliances.
Which is best?
There is no single answer. Existing infrastructure, available space, fuel-storage arrangements, hot-water demand and future plans all matter. A site assessment is the most useful starting point.
